App Screensaver

    App Screensaver

    Article summary

    Requirements

To prevent screen burn-in, all pixels shown on the screen must change at least every 15 minutes on screen.

Apps must be developed with a screen saver built-in after 15 minutes of inactivity. Your app screen saver should have constant changes to avoid screen burn-in (e.g. periodically reposition all UI elements, gradient color changes, Ken Burns background image effect).

Video apps must not deploy a screen saver when there is active video playback within the app.

Audio-only apps such as music streaming and podcast apps may choose to not implement a screen saver in the app and leverage the system screen saver provided by the X1 Platform. Customers can adjust the timeout for when the system screen saver starts on the X1 Platform. For audio-only apps, the timeout value will never be lower than 15 minutes to avoid the system screen saver showing after just one audio asset. For example, if the customer sets the system screen saver timeout to 5 minutes, the screen saver will display on top of your app after 15 minutes. If the customer sets the screen saver timeout to 30 minutes, the screen saver will display on top of your app after 30 minutes.
